Regal Springs Tilapia Farm Awarded Sustainability CertificationPosted by Santa Monica Admin, on October 26th, 2010 in Product Alerts, Selecting Seafood, Sustainability
Our tilapia supplier, Regal Springs, announced last week that its Aquafina farm in Honduras is the first to be audited for and found compliant with the International Standards for Responsible Tilapia Aquaculture (ISRTA).
We’re glad to bring you such a versatile and delicious fish from a farm that gets such high marks!
This particular audit is the first of a series of pilot audits scheduled under an agreement between World Wildlife Fund and GlobalGAP. The farm was audited by a third-party for compliance to science-based standards that were recently completed by the Tilapia Aquaculture Dialogue. To learn more about the Tilapia Aquaculture Dialogue and what’s next for the newly formed Aquaculture Stewardship Council, please visit their website.
Seafood Watch rates tilapia from Central America as a “Good Alternative” to other imported product, and we feel with this new nod of approval for Regal Springs you can’t go wrong with this choice!
If you’re interested in ordering some of this great (and certified sustainable) tilapia, call your Santa Monica Sales representative today! Regal Springs will also be at our upcoming Open House – come by and congratulate them and try some of their amazing tilapia.
