Santa Monica Seafood gets into the Holiday Spirit with Caterina’s ClubPosted by Santa Monica Admin, on December 13th, 2012 in Announcements
Google the name “Bruno Serato” and you’ll quickly realize that he is no ordinary chef… Owner of The Anaheim White House and founder of Caterina’s Club, Chef Serato turns out amazing upscale plates for his restaurant customers every day – and then turns around and feeds upwards of 300 underprivileged local kids, every night.
Chef Serato told California Forward;
“Six and a half years ago, my mom Caterina came to visit me from Italy. I brought her to the Boys and Girls Club, and we saw a seven year old boy eating a bag of potato chips for dinner. My mom said, ‘you need to feed him pasta.’ That was my turning point,”
With the help of his mother, Chef Serato founded Caterina’s Club as support for the Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim, feeding pasta dishes to kids living in nearby motels. To date he’s fed over 450,000 meals to local families (and that number grows daily)!
We had a chance to lend a bit of help to Chef Serato and Caterina’s Club this week with a donation of frozen holiday turkeys. On behalf of the entire Cigliano family, Vince Cigliano said, “We feel honored to be able to support Bruno’s efforts. If we all find a way to pitch in, great things will continue to happen under his watch.”
In March 2011, Chef Serato was named a CNN Top 10 Hero of the World for his local efforts. That same year he was awarded the Boys and Girls Club President’s Award at their annual meeting in Las Vegas. We could go on about his other accolades, or you can just learn more about Chef Serato on the Anaheim White House website.
As we celebrate with family and friends this time of year, we’re glad to have the opportunity to share our good fortune with those around us. Whether it’s through our RSVP Program or individual relationships with amazing local chefs – giving back is part or what we do every day at Santa Monica Seafood.
