PROCUREMENT DEPT.
GOALS/OBJECTIVE & PHILOSOPHY
The goal of the procurement department is to make Santa Monica Seafood the benchmark for seafood quality, diversity and availability, in the Southwestern states at reasonable prices, sourced from responsible fisheries.
- We will work toward this by fulfilling these objectives:
- Source the highest quality product for those that demand it and the best value product for those that need it.
- To constantly work toward direct sourcing, circumventing the extra cost of middlemen and avoiding time delays that affect quality.
- To develop strategic vendor and fishermen relations that will help assure the finest quality, consistent supply and best pricing possible.
- To constantly seek out new species, new fishery opportunities and new ways to purchase that will ultimately benefit our customers.
- To work with strategic food service and retail accounts as consultants, assisting them in controlling cost in the highly volatile world of seafood.
Our philosophy has always been to develop strong loyalty with key vendors such that they take an active and interested roll in our purchase planning and quality assurance. We would like to transition that philosophy to our customers. We want to become the seafood buying department for our chain foodservice and retail accounts, linking them directly with suppliers, consulting, managing the transaction and providing the drayage on a program basis, full disclosure. In this manner, Santa Monica Seafood believes that we can best assure our customers the price stability, consistency and reliable quality they need to be as successful as they can possible be.
