Chef Johannes Bacher

Johannes Bacher, chef and owner of the eponymous Johannes, has achieved a rare distinction among hundreds of awards from international food media that would be tough to top. His iteration of Wiener Schnitzel, the national dish of his homeland Austria, is featured in Mimi Sheraton’s book, 1,000 Foods to Eat Before You Die. No small feat for a restaurant in Palm Springs, CA!

Growing up in Austria, he and his brothers would catch Trout from the frozen river near their home before returning the fish to the water. Chef Johannes has made his way from the small village of Koessen to a life in the kitchen through several years of formal training in Austria (before compulsory military service,) to the world-famous London Hilton, to rapidly ascending to a role as the Corporate Chef for Seabourn Cruise Lines, to a stint as the guest chef at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand and ultimately to his seminal Palm Springs restaurant.

Johannes has trusted Santa Monica Seafood for his favorites (Scallops, Saltspring Mussels, Ahi, Lobster, and Salmon) since he opened his doors in 1999. For any home cooks looking to “Eat Well, Live Better,” Johannes suggest, “don’t be afraid to try something new and please don’t overcook seafood.”
